EPC Training Qualifications

EPC Training is a qualification that you can undertake in order to produce and Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). An EPC is a certificate that indicates how energy efficient a domestic property is. There is a scale, ‘A-G,’ with ‘A’ being the most energy efficient and ‘G’ being the least. The certificate is required when the property is placed on the market For Sale or Rent. The prospective buyer or renter can use the Energy Performance Certificate to estimate the cost of energy consumption.

Qualified EPC Assessors

An Energy Performance Certificate can only be produced by a qualified assessor who has completed and EPC Training Course. There are various providers of EPC Training courses and a variety of Awarding Bodies. It is, therefore, very important that a prospective student carries out the necessary research to determine the training programme that suits them best. The two main awarding bodies of the Domestic Energy Assessor Qualification are City and Guilds and Awarding Body for the Built Environment (ABBE). Depending on which training provider you choose, it is likely that your EPC Training will be one of these two courses.

Your EPC Training

When you have completed your EPC Training you will then become a licensed Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA) who can complete official Energy Performance Certificates. A DEA uses a specially designed software called RDSAP. The RDSAP software is a computer programme that you input information about a property. This will be things such as: Address of the Property, Date Built, Length and Width, Type of Glazing, Type of Heating System, Type of Insulation etc. Every bit of data you need to collect would have been covered in your EPC Training so you will know exactly what information is required. You will not need to do any calculations as this will be completed by the RDSAP software. Your role as a Domestic Energy Assessor is to collect and input data into the software. Once this has been completed the Energy Performance Certificate will be produced.

Complete Your EPC Training

When you complete your EPC Training you will learn that all EPC Certificates are uploaded onto the government Landmark website. These certificates are valid for up to ten years. If you need to check whether a property has a valid EPC then you can search on the Landmark website with the property address. If the property has had an Energy Performance Certificate in the last ten years then you can download a copy to see the energy efficiency on the scale ‘A-G.’ A homeowner may choose to get a new and updated EPC if they have carried out any work on the property such as; A New Boiler, A New Door, Cavity Wall Insulation etc as this can have a big effect on the Energy Efficiency of the property.
