The government have announced the Green Homes Grant 2020 this morning, Tuesday 7th July, 2020. They say that, Hundreds of thousands of homes will be eligible for the voucher scheme of up to £5,000 for energy-saving home improvement measures. This is going to be a game changer for business in the Green Energy Sector as Rishi Sunak will announce the £2bn grant scheme this afternoon. These measures will be part of a £3bn effort to cut carbon emissions by 2050.
Green Energy Installers, EPC Assessors and many others will welcome the news and The Treasury say that the grants could help to support more than 100,000 jobs in the UK. There is likely to be a boast to training providers who training Domestic Energy Assessors on EPC Courses.
So why will the Green Homes Grant be a good deal for Homeowners? Well, For example, a homeowner could install cavity wall and floor insulation for about £5,000 - the homeowner would pay £2,000 while the government would contribute £3,000.
It is anticipated, that the Green Homes Grant will launch sometime in September, with online applications for recommended energy efficiency measures, informed by an Energy Performance Certificate, and homeowners being supplied with a list of accredited local suppliers.
A Voucher, up to £5000, will be issued when one of local Green Home Grant Suppliers has provided a quote and the work is approved.
Speaking on Morning Television, Business Secretary Alok Sharma added that the poorest households in the UK, could possible receive up to £10,000 in grants. He also said that double glazing would also be covered by the scheme which will be a boast to the industry.
He continued: "What [the Green Homes Grant 2020] ultimately means is lower bills for households, hundreds of pounds off energy bills every year, it's supporting jobs and is very good news for the environment."
The conservative government said around half of the Green Home Grant - which is due to be spent in one financial year - will go to the poorest homeowners, who will not have to contribute anything to the cost. Better insulation could save some people £600 a year on energy bills, the Government said.
